UK Game Prices Cut for Christmas

Many stores nationwide are now selling a selection of games at around half of their original price. This comes from Amazon, Tesco and the video game retailer GAME, who are selling the following games for a lower price;

Just Dance 4 - £18
Medal of Honor: Warfighter - £20
Dishonoured - £21.99
Resident Evil 6 - £22.99
LEGO Lord of The Rings - £25
Borderlands 2 - £25

On the week of December 3rd to December 9th, game software sales figures were reported in at 2,258,843. However, at the same time 12 months ago, December 5th – December 11th, the week’s game sales were figure was 3,014,572. This shows a decrease of just over 755,000 sales of game software at the same point in the year.

It is no wonder that publishers and retailers are worrying and thus reducing prices in order to maintain sales throughout the busy Christmas period. This dip shows that although there are several big releases available such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Far Cry 3, they aren’t producing the sales figures that publishers may have expected in the UK.

On a positive note for the consumer, this is a great time to be shopping around and picking up games to put in those Christmas stockings!
